Frequently
Asked Questions
What is
informal recruitment?
Informal recruitment is the period of recruitment that occurs
after formal recruitment concludes in the Fall. Informal
recruitment is also referred to as Continuous Open Recruitment (COR).
These events are organized by individual sorority chapters and are
less structured than formal recruitment. Informal recruitment is
also held the first few months of the Spring semester.
What is formal
recruitment?
Formal recruitment takes place the week before classes start each
Fall. All 13 sororities at Iowa State participate in Formal
recruitment. The week consists of structured open house events and
gives potential members a chance to visit every sorority and meet
members from each chapter.
How do I join
your sorority?
If you wish to participate in informal recruitment, call the AOII
Recruitment Hotline at 292-9057 and let us know you're interested.
We'll arrange a time for you to come over and visit, or attend one
of our recruitment events. You'll need to attend several events
and meet our chapter members in order to be offered a bid to join
our chapter. Just as you want to make sure you join the right
sorority for you, we want to ensure that our new members hold the
same ideals and principles that bond our sisters together for a
lifetime commitment.
What is a bid?
A bid is an official card from the sorority that is an invitation
for membership.
Why should I
join a sorority?
There are so many reasons to join a sorority! Friendship, academic
development, a home away from home, sisterhood, leadership,
personal growth, commitment to common ideals, community service
projects, social events, campus involvement, the list goes
on and on! Membership in Alpha Omicron Pi is a special bond that
lasts a lifetime. Sorority membership does not end when you
graduate from college. The friends you make and the bonds
you form while in college will last a lifetime. From attending
alumnae events to career networking, membership in Alpha Omicron
Pi can be a rewarding experience along the path to individual,
professional and spiritual growth.
