Activities

The years at Iowa State are always very active for the women of Alpha Omicron Pi. Greek Life provides many activities and opportunities to be involved, have fun, and meet new people.

Founder’s Day
- On this day we get the chance to spend time with alumnae and celebrate both our national founding in 1897 as well as Iota Sigma chapter’s founding in 1968.

Mom’s Weekend -
This event is a wonderful opportunity for our parents to be involved. During the weekend our mothers join us for an evening out in Ames, with a nice dinner and a game of bowling. The next morning we all meet back at the house for a casual brunch and a fun auction where moms bid on items brought as a fundraiser to help raise money for positive changes and additions to the house. Former funds raised have been used for a very nice silver cabinet, high speed internet access, and various remodeling projects throughout the house. This weekend presents a great opportunity for the moms to meet each other as well as their daughter’s friends!

Greek Week -
This week long event is one of the largest events in the Greek community. During this event chapters participate in competitions and events such as a Lip Sync contest, Greek Olympics, and various tournaments. Each year we are excited to participate in Greek Week with two fraternities.  Click here for more Greek Week photos!

House Party -
This exciting event is an evening where we throw a themed party and bring dates. It is a great chance to spend time with your sisters and friends. House party themes include: AO Pirates and RRR Mateys, Service Workers, and Through the Ages.

The Rose Formal - Our Formal is a fine AOII tradition. During this formal dinner and dance we have one last event of the year to spend time with graduating seniors. Seniors have a chance to speak and do senior “wills” where they pass on a tradition or something special to a younger member.

Last Semester also gave us lots of great events:

Recruitment -
The year started off with formal recruitment. During the week of recruitment we had a great time meeting new women, and spending time with each other. Congratulations to all of our new wonderful members.

Watermelon Fest -
This event, sponsored by IFC and CPC for the whole Greek community was a great chance for the new girls to get out and meet new people and start off their new year. The event features games, a barbeque, and the chance to meet new members from all other chapters.

Homecoming -
We participate in tournaments, painted store front windows, Olympics, and scream like crazy during the Yell Like Hell competition. We are also able to participate in many community service projects that help out many different organizations each year.

Tailgates -
During football season we had the opportunity to have some great tailgates with our homecoming pairings.

Dad’s Weekend -
During this event our Dads come down for a great weekend of tailgating, football games, dinner, cards, and some good father-daughter time. This event is always a good time for everyone.

Philanthropies -
This year, in addition to our own philanthropy, Run For the Roses, we also participated in other philanthropic activities including: Delta Wild Wings, Phi Delt 'Tuck Ins', Gamma Phi Beta's pancakes, Kappa Fiesta, and Alpha Gamma Delta's breakfast. The picture to the right was taken before the AOIIs got "dirty" in Pi Beta Phi's Dirty Open volleyball tournament.
